It also plays a vital role in determining the cultural pattern of a community as a whole. Societies with unending diversities have to put in a lot of extra effort to save their own culture from the influences of the other systems. In The Continent of Circe, Nirad. C. Chaudhuri has tried to justify the behavioural patterns seen in India by giving them a space in history and establishing logic behind them. Continent of Circe, later on published as The Heart of India is a bulky book explaining the logic behind the irrationalities seen in India. This article is an attempt to help enjoy reading The Heart of India. The basic ideas of connections between history and politics would multiply the joys of reading this book.
